Fancy spending a night high in the Swiss Alps, surrounded by glaciers and peaks, but without the need for technical climbing or roped glacier crossings?  Well, you’re in luck as Canton Valais in Switzerland offers several huts above or near 3000 metres that can be reached on marked hiking trails—perfect for experienced hikers who want to go high without ropes and crampons.

Here are 6 stunning alpine huts that let you experience the magic of the high mountains—no mountaineering skills needed. Do of course check on the individual websites for dates that the huts are open.

1. Cabane de Tracuit – 3256 m

High above the village of Zinal, the Cabana de Tracuit Hut is the highest on this list and offers jaw-dropping views over the Val d’Anniviers. While it’s often used as a base to summit the Bishorn, simply reaching the hut is a worthy goal. The trail is steep and demanding, but it’s well-marked and doesn’t involve glacier travel.

Cabane des Vignettes – 3160 m

Located along the famous Haute Route between Arolla and Zermatt, this hut rewards hikers with expansive views of alpine giants. Depending on the season, snowfields may still be present on the way, but there’s no need for ropes or technical climbing. It’s one of the most spectacular places to overnight on a high-altitude hike.

3. Bivouac de l’Aiguillette à la Singla – 3176 m
