The Amazing Street Art in Beautiful Neuchâtel
Exploring Switzerland and Discovering Neuchâtel
Switzerland is an amazing country to explore and this year because of Covid, instead of travelling abroad so much, I have been discovering different places all over Switzerland. One location which I really enjoyed visiting was the lakeside town of Neuchâtel. In just over 2 hours by car from Zurich (or only 1.5 hours by train!) you can be in centre of this beautiful town in the heart of the Jura Three Lakes region.
So much To See and Do in Neuchâtel
It was my first time in this historic town and there was so much to see and do.
There is a castle, a fabulous Art and History Museum and when we visited they were showing a great exhibition of the old posters of Suchard Chocolate – see photo above.
There’s a beautiful lake, a fun Italian quarter (which even has street art painted on the road – see photo below) and an abundance of great restaurants and bars serving fabulous food.
Street Art To Be Found Everywhere in Neuchâtel
However, the one thing that really made a great impression on me was the ART – in particular the street art in Neuchâtel.
It seemed that everywhere I went there was street art on display – on the walls, on doors, on buildings – in fact everywhere. The interesting thing is that it is not all in one style – there are so many different types of street art to be seen and admired.
You will see below more examples of the street art I discovered – but I was literally scratching the surface! There is so much more to be seen!
Keep your eyes open when you’re strolling round as there are plenty more examples to be seen.
So if you prefer outdoor art it’s perfect in Neuchâtel as you don’t have to go to a museum, pay an entrance fee and you can view it any time of the day – all for FREE.
You can also find some street art in the form of sculptures like this cow too.
More Street Art In Nearby Le Locle
In fact you many be interested to know that there is even an urban art trail which you can go on in the town of Le Locle. Le Locle is just half an hour away from Neuchâtel by car, and a little longer by train. I didn’t have time on my visit but I will definitely put it on my list for next time. Apparently there are some great street paintings on the façades of many walls in Le Locle, with some fascinating works highlighting the local heritage of watchmaking, lace-making and other regional occupations. For more information please see here.
Scavenger Tour – Les Chenapans
If you take the Les Chenapans Scavenger Tour of Neuchâtel you get to see quite a lot of street art as you explore the town. Find out more here.
The Neuchâtel Tourist Card
If you stay at least one night at one of the hotels you get the Neuchâtel Tourist Card which allows you free access to 25 museums, most public transport and a variety of other benefits. Take a look here to see what you get with this great card.
