Fine Food and Exquisite Views at the Restaurant Botta Glacier 3000
Restaurant Botta Glacier 3000
There are lots of places in Switzerland where you can find restaurants with fabulous views, but surely one of the most stunning has to be the Restaurant Botta, Glacier 3000. It ticks all the boxes – location, views and amazing food!
An Architectural Gem By Mario Botta
However, it is also housed in an architectural gem, designed by none other than one of Switzerland’s most famous architects, Mario Botta.
Botta Well Known For Stunning Modern Design
Botta is well known for his stunning, modern design and clean lines. He has worked alongside Le Corbusier, and has designed over 600 projects, not just in Switzerland but around the globe. One of the most well known being the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. He comes from Mendrisio in Ticino, and was one of the founders of the Academy of Architecture in the town. Other notable buildings he has designed in Switzerland include the church of Santa Maria degli Angeli at Monte Tamaro, the remarkable Fiore di pietra (or ‘flower of stone’) building at Monte Generoso and the church of St John the Baptist in the little hamlet of Mogno north of Locarno.
The Botta Restaurant Stunning Both Inside and Out
The Botta Restaurant looks good both on the inside and and the outside. It’s located right on the edge of the Glacier des Diablerets, the highest point at Glacier 3000. This imposing modern building can only be accessed by cable car from the Col du Pillon and is the highest restaurant in the region.
There is so much attention to detail, that even the loos have these wonderful “porthole” views over the mountains!
Even while seated inside you can enjoy breathtaking views over the highest mountains of the Alps. In addition to the waiter service restaurant on the 4th floor, there is also a self service restaurant on the 3rd floor and a sunny outdoor terrace too.

View of The Peak Walk By Tissot From Restaurant Botta
You can even see the actual Peak Walk by Tissot suspension bridge from the restaurant, depending on where you’re seated. Incidentally, once you’re up that far, you should definitely go for a walk on the bridge afterwards, as it’s the highest hanging bridge between two mountain peaks in the world! You can find out more about it here.
Delicious Regional Food at the Restaurant Botta
If you arrive early you will be in time to enjoy one of the restaurant’s fabulous Peak Brunches, but we went for lunch and had a wonderful selection of culinary delights, and it was so lovely to see the views out of the huge windows.
The restaurant serves regional specialties from Vaud, Valais and the Bernese Oberland and our food was delicious. There is everything from soup and salads to mountain food like Rösti and tender steaks. One of my favourite dishes is the Pulled Beef Burger “Scex-Rouge” – but the steak and the Rösti above were delicious! We also had really friendly and helpful service.
After visiting the Restaurant Botta do allow yourself sufficient time to explore Glacier 3000. As well as the Peak Walk by Tissot suspension bridge, you can go winter hiking or snow-shoeing on the glacier, skiing, or if you book in advance there is also dog sledding and a ride in a SnowBus. Please note that for the SnowBus you need to book as a group and you can find more information here.
TIP: Always check the weather conditions as if it is very windy the Peak Walk may be closed
