Locarno’s Camelia Festival 29th March – 2nd April 2023
The Cameili Locarno is a 5 day Camelia Festival which centres on the Camelia Park in Locarno. Every Spring around 6,000 people flock to the see the beaufiul flower displays and admire their beauty. The very first Festa delle Camelie took place in Locarno in 1923 and it included a busy schedule of concerts, talks and even fireworks. This year’s festival will take place from 29th March – 2nd April 2023.
The event continued under the name Festa delle Camelie until 1940 but after a pause of around 12 years, the festival was relaunched in 1952 as the “Festa dei Fiori“ or Flower Festival. However, the Flower Festival last took place in 1984 and the festival now concentrates on the Camelia and is called Festa delle Camelie and takes place in Locarno.
This year you will see over 200 types of this flower, beautifully arranged by experienced gardeners in the private and public gardens of the Locarno region. The Camellia Park, is one of the parks featured in the “Gardens of Switzerland” and is open to visitors during the day. In addition to the main event the program includes side-events and smaller cultural activities. See full details of the locations in the website linked below.
