Gerry Hofstetter Lights Up the Matterhorn with Hope
During the Corona Pandemic
What could make a stronger impact than the 14, 600 ft Swiss mountain in Zermatt acting as billboard for important messages of hope and solidarity at this time of crisis? As the Corona Covid-19 virus sweeps across the whole world, the Matterhorn sends messages to everyone in Switzerland that they are not alone and that there is hope in solidarity.
It comes at a time when this mountain village and ski resort is devoid of the one thing it excels at in Winter – entertaining skiers and visitors from all over the world. In the light of the Corona pandemic the slopes are closed and there is an important message for everyone to stay at home.
The illuminations by Gerry Hofstetter are in the colours the Swiss Flag, red and white and make a strong impact against the night sky.
The light projections began on 24th March and will take place every day between sunset and 11pm. Most importantly you don’t actually have to go to Zermatt to see the display as you can actually #Stayathome and see them live via webcams.
