Glacier 3000 – A Skiing Paradise For All The Family
You may have seen our article on The Peak Walk by Tissot at the Glacier 3000, but if you’re a ski lover you will be delighted to know that this area is also a fabulous ski resort. Because of its height you can ski at Glacier 3000 from November to May. It’s a great place to visit and is just three hours from Zurich, Basel or Bern.
Col du Pillon Cable Car to Glacier 3000
The adventure begins at The Col du Pillon (1546 m) in the Vaudois Alps where the cable car will whizz you to the highest point in canton Vaud in less than twenty minutes. To the Tsanfleuron glacier in the Les Diablerets massif – and to Glacier 3000.
Views Towards Matterhorn, Mont-Blanc, Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau
The views are spectacular as you rise towards the summit of the Scex Rouge. From the top you can see a breathtaking panorama of the Matterhorn, Mont-Blanc massif as well as the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.
At Glacier 3000 you will see stunning architecture of the Mario Botta restaurant as well as the Peak Walk, the highest suspension bridge in Europe, connecting two mountain peaks.
Skiing For All Levels at Glacier 3000
As for skiing, the slopes at Glacier 3000 are open from 7th November 2020 to 21st May 21, 2021. The Villars-Gryon-Les Diablerets ski area comprises 112 kilometers of slopes suitable for all levels. Fun fact: Swiss ski cross champion, Fanny Smith grew up in this location.
Toboggan Fun In The Area
If you prefer sledging, the toboggan run on the Les Diablerets slope takes around 30 minutes. You can use the run every day and you can even do night runs on Wednesday, Friday and Saturdays, using headlamps. There is a further toboggan run in Villars, the Piste du Col de Soudis, a 2.5 kilometers run through the forest. In addition there there are three different toboggan trails for beginners, advanced and experts in Gryon.
There are also some great Winter hiking routes. You could try the one from the Col du Pillon to Isenau or the one between Cergnement and Solalex. At the top, why not enjoy a Raclette from the wood fire at the Refuge de Solalex ?
Freestyling and Fat Bikes
There are also options for freestylers in the Bretaye and Glacier 3000 snow parks. If you fancy, you could also try out a fat bike. Fat bikes are basically mountain bikes for the snow, with very wide tyres, which are not fully inflated. You can ride on snow, off-road or even on sand, and enjoy a really fun ride. In fact in Villars there is a slope which is specially prepared for these bikes. Maybe this is not for everyone – but there is plenty else to do in the area.
In conclusion, if you’re looking for a great resort with so many sporting options, why not take a look at Glacier 3000?
