Mount Rigi – Queen of the Mountains
Europe’s First Cog Wheel Train To Mount Rigi
Fancy a train journey on Europe’s very first cog wheel train to the summit of Mount Rigi? You can take the train from the station at Vitznau and the views as you ascend are incredible. Depending on the time of year you visit the views will vary enormously. In Summer you have green pastures, cows grazing in fields and the bright blue colour of the water in Lake Lucerne glistening below. In Winter you’re greeted by a beautiful snowy wonderland. However, whatever time of year, or indeed time of day you visit, you are bound to be impressed by this beautiful mountain.
Rigi Queen Of The Mountains
Known as the Queen of the Mountains, Rigi offers scenic view across the whole of central Switzerland, once you reach the top. In fact you can even see as far as France and Germany. The mountain has been very popular with artists over the years and was painted in a series by JMW Turner. The author Mark Twain also visited Rigi whilst making his “Tour of Europe” in the 1870s.
