Spectacular Street Art in Dublin
Dublin’s Street Art
Dublin is a vibrant colourful city. However, even if Lockdown has prevented the city from expressing itself in it normal fun way, there is still life on the streets with an abundance of contemporary art. Now may not be the time to explore the city and discover it all, but Sid Akhtar has found these colourful pieces of urban art to share with us.
Street Art
Street Art by its very nature is ephemeral so artists take spray cans and paint murals on every available street “canvas”. Any wall, side of a building, shop shutter or even a bin or other street cabinet can be transformed into a striking art work.
The paintings can be beautiful, funny, political or simply just a splash of colour in a sea of grey.
What you see in the streets today may not be there tomorrow. Other artists come along and add to murals or simply spray their work on top – but the striking ones usually stay put for a while.
Whether it’s of animals or people or abstract pictures, it all adds to the vibrance of the city and makes it come alive.
Not every piece is a work of art, but there are some great pieces which really force you to stop and stare.
Animals and bird are popular themes – but faces too are popular and sometimes almost eerie.
Whatever the subject the beauty is that there are no rules – simply colour and creativity.
So next time you visit Dublin, or even walk through your own city or town, take a moment to look at the colour and the vibrance of the Street Art near you. You may well be surprised 🙂
With thanks to Sid Akhtar for all the colourful photos
