Where to Visit Santa in Switzerland
Fancy a great Winter outing for all the family ? How about a trip to visit Santa in his grotto at Rochers De Naye ?
Montreux Noël is the beautiful lakeside Christmas Market in the heart of Montreux. However, in addition to the Christmas Market and all its attractions which are suitable for young and old, there is also the very magical experience of taking a ride to visit Santa in his Grotto.
Santa’s Grotto is located at Rochers de Naye, high above Montreux in the Swiss Alps at over 2,000m with sweeping views over Lake Geneva.
Cogwheel Train to Rochers De Naye From Montreux Railway Station
To get there, there is a special cogwheel railway which leaves hourly from Montreux railway station, starting at 9.17am. The journey itself is worth taking as you get views of fields, forests and over Lake Geneva as you ascend more than 1,600 m. This scenic trip takes around 55 minutes and when you get to the top there is plenty to do!
As you get off the train the first thing you will notice are the fabulous views from the top of Rochers-de-Naye. You can see across the Lake and the Vaud Valley and towards Valais, Bern and even the French Alps. Do wear sturdy shoes though, as when you’re walking outside, the snow can be quite slippy!
Santa’s Grotto
However, especially if you have young children in tow, you may want to skip the panoramic views till the end, and follow the signs through the tunnels which takes you to Santa! It is all beautifully decorated with lots of colourful Christmas decorations and lights and it’s a fun adventure, especially for little children!
Not only does every child have the opportunity to meet and greet Santa, but they also leave with a little gift and an original Santa Claus certificate.
