Illuminated Snow Sculptures Grindelwald
The World Snow Festival is usually one of Grindelwald’s most fascinating winter events and at night the sculptures look stunning as they are illuminated against a dark night sky. The festival began in 1983 when some Japanese artists created a gigantic Heidi sculpture out of snow and the pictures of it went viral. Since then the festival takes place every year in the village centre at the foot of the Eiger and artists compete to win the contest for the best sculpture.
The competing teams have their giant snow sculptures assessed according to the following criteria: topicality, originality, and skill. The public’s opinion is also taken into consideration in the voting process.
So why not visit the beautiful town of Grindelwald and see the snow sculptures for yourself? Whilst you’re there, do make sure to take advantage of some of the other attractions in this beautiful Winter Wonderland.
